SpecTips: Carlisle’s 5′ SAT EPDM: A Game-Changing Single-Ply Alternative to Mod-Bit

High-rise and other hard-to-access rooftops have traditionally relied on modified bitumen (mod-bit) due to its manageable roll sizes that fit into freight elevators. However, mod-bit installations can be messy, time-consuming; and, in some cases, restricted due to regulations banning certain applications. While applicators prefer the efficiency of single-ply roofing, its larger roll sizes and adhesive requirements have historically left a gap in the market for these challenging installations.

Carlisle recently introduced a new 5′ x 40′ Self-Adhered Technology (SAT™) EPDM to meet the growing demand for an easier-to-install solution for hard-to-access, small, or cut-up roof sections; as well as vertical walls. Available in black and white and exclusively in 60-mil thickness, this innovative membrane features a factory-applied, 100% solid pressure-sensitive adhesive; ensuring consistent application while boosting productivity by up to 80%. The adhesive is low-VOC and eliminates jobsite odors, making SAT EPDM an ideal choice for occupied buildings and VOC-regulated areas.

SAT membranes are approved for direct application to common substrate boards, including DensDeck® Prime, SECUROCK®, and SecurShield® products; as well as clean concrete. For vertical applications, walls can be primed with CAV-GRIP® III or bonding adhesive.

Engineered for efficiency and convenience, the lightweight 5′ x 40′ rolls weigh approximately 80 pounds, making them easy to carry up stairwells or transport via freight elevators. Each pallet contains 12 rolls, perfectly sized to fit in a standard pickup truck bed for hassle-free transportation.

Revolutionizing Roofing Once Again
More than 60 years ago, Carlisle's EPDM transformed the commercial roofing industry, introducing an easier-to-install alternative to traditional roofing systems. Known for exceptional weatherability, long-term performance, and reliability; EPDM remains the industry standard. Now, Carlisle’s new 5′ x 40′ SAT EPDM rolls are set to redefine high-rise and hard-to-access roofing, making installations faster, cleaner, and more efficient than ever.

SpecTopics: Understanding EPDs

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) help architects and designers make informed decisions about the materials they specify, ensuring that projects align with sustainability goals. The two most common types of EPDs in the commercial construction industry are industry-wide EPDs and company-specific EPDs.
