Building Envelope Spec Tools

The demand for high-performance building envelope systems is on the rise. Energy codes such as ASHRAE 90.1 and the IECC continue to increase requirements aimed at creating more energy efficient and environmentally friendly building designs. Architects, specification writers, and designers have an almost impossible task–staying up-to-date and meeting the new code requirements with their designs while also selecting appropriate materials for long-term reliability and compatibility.

Over the last several decades, CCM has become the leading provider of single-source building envelope materials, including single-ply roofing, air and vapor barriers, waterproofing membranes, insulation, metal products, and more. CCM’s NVELOP Building Envelope Solutions program was created to promote the manufacturing capabilities of CCM while helping to drive the industry toward more of a single-source “system” approach to building envelope design.

Although NVELOP has been around for several years, it is still ahead of its time as it relates to awareness, acceptance, and competition in the marketplace. No other manufacturer can match CCM’s breadth of materials, tie-in detailing instruction, and tie-in warranty.

Because of the uniqueness of NVELOP, it can be difficult to get it specified into public bid project specifications when multiple manufacturers are required. Because of these challenges, CCM has created a few additional tools to help you get NVELOP specified:
  • MasterFormat Specification Sell Sheet–Provides recommendations on how to write a public bid specification around CCM’s NVELOP without limiting competition and creating a “hook”. This one-page document can be printed and used as a leave-behind when speaking with architects about NVELOP,specifically when NVELOP is being considered for a public bid project. This document can be downloaded here and printed copies can be ordered here.
  • Competitor Benchmark Letter–Helps to raise awareness of CCM’s NVELOP program and provides a list of single-source building envelope product manufacturers who can provide similar materials to those offered by CCM. The list provides information on what products each competitor manufactures; architects can use this information to include competition as needed for public bid project specifications. This letter can be filled out to reflect the project information and provided to the architect. It is available for download here.
TIPS
  • NVELOP Project Letter -CCM Not in Spec is a standard letter you can use when one or more CCM systems areexcluded from acceptable materials in division 7 (i.e. roofing, weather barriers, waterproofing, etc.). This letter can serve as a sales tool by making the architect aware of CCM’s available materials and the NVELOP program. It also helps to ensure the architect knows an NVELOP tie-in warranty is available when multiple CCM systems are used and tied together using the standard tie-in details. The letter is intended to be filled out to reflect the specific project information,as well as the section(s) within division 7 where CCM products were excluded. Download the letter here.
  • NVELOP Project Letter -CCM in Spec is a standard letter you can use when multiple CCM systems are included as acceptable materials in division 7 (i.e. roofing, weather barriers, waterproofing, etc.), but there is no mention of NVELOP’s tie-in warranty. This letter can serve as a sales tool to make sure the architect knows that CCM offers an NVELOP tie-in warranty if multiple CCM systems are used and tied together using the standard tie-in details. The letter is intended to be filled out to reflect the specific project information,as well as the sections within division 7 where CCM products were included.
