SpecTips: Don’t Miss Out on These Important Tips for RapidLock Roofing Systems!
RapidLock™Roofing Systems
Carlisle SynTec Systems has partnered with VELCRO®Brand Securable Solutions to produce a revolutionary advancement in efficiency and time savings for commercial roofing contractors: the industry’s first roofing system powered by Velcro. Carlisle’s RapidLock (RL) Roofing System uses a hook-and-loop attachment method that provides a fully adhered system without the use of adhesives. Special facers on Carlisle’s insulation and cover boards act as the hook and the FleeceBACK membrane acts as the loop.
InsulBase RL Polyiso, available in a 2” board, is a rigid roof insulation panel composed of a 20-psi, closed-cell polyisocyanurate foam; SecurShield HD RL Polyiso, available in a 1/2” board, is 100-psi, closed-cell polyisocyanurate. Both are bonded on each side to fiber-reinforced facers (GRF).
FleeceBACK RL membranes are available in 115-mil-thick EPDM (black) or TPO (white) in 10’-wide by 50’-or 100’-longrolls. The FleeceBACK RL EPDM membrane is manufactured with 3” Factory-Applied Tape. Both FleeceBACK RL EPDM and TPO membranes have a factory-applied release liner to aid in installation.
RapidLock provides a fully adhered roofing system without VOCs or installation temperature restrictions. As this system does not utilize FAST Adhesive, it should be written in competition with that system. Language can be added to a FleeceBACK specification using FAST Adhesive to include the RL membrane and RL insulation (InsulBase RL) or RL cover board (SecurShield RL) as an alternate product or as basis of design in “PART II –Products.”
Listing multiple manufacturers for acceptable fleece-backed membranes using a two-part polyurethane adhesive and creating an acceptable alternate for RapidLock OR designating RapidLock as the “Basis of Design” and creating acceptable alternates for other fleece-backed membranes using a two-part polyurethane adhesive will allow a more open specification when more than one manufacturer is needed for a project.
TIPS
When using the Alternates method, utilize Division 1 –“Alternates” to include RapidLock to the “Schedule of Alternates” list for inclusion in the bid. When using “Basis of Design” method, use RapidLockas the “Basis of Design” and add acceptable manufacturers with their appropriate membrane and adhesive as acceptable equals.
