SpecTips - Don’t Miss Out on These Important Tips for ChannelDry EPS Insulation!

ChannelDry® EPS Insulation

In today’s fast-paced construction world, roofing over newly poured concrete is an industry-wide issue. “How dry should the concrete deck be before roofing begins?” is a very common question. Carlisle’s ChannelDry EPS Insulation helps maintain your project’s timeline by allowing roof installation to begin upon structural curing of the concrete. Manufactured with multidirectional air flow channels, Carlisle’s ChannelDry, when combined with one-way and two-way pressure relief vents, facilities air flow at the deck level to help promote drying.

ChannelDry Features and Benefits
  • Supports the use of additional insulation and/or cover boards
  • Compatible with mechanically fastened, ballasted, induction-welded,and adhered (only with cover board or additional polyiso) roof systems
  • Provides R-value of 7.1 in 2” product
  • ASTM C578 Type IX (25psi) designation
  • Contains 25% recycled material
  • 100% recyclable foam core
  • Used with one-way pressure relief vents installed at a rate of 1 per 2,000 square feet, and two-way pressure release vents installed at a rate of 1 per 8,000 square feet
TIPS As this system is designed to allow the venting of moisture from the newly cured concrete deck, it should be written in competition with concrete additives, concrete curing agents, vented base sheets,and/or deck level air & vapor barriers. Modify the membrane specification to add the insulation and one-and two-way pressure release vents to the system as an alternate product or as basis of design in “PART II –Products.”

If a proprietary spec is being written, add one-and two-way pressure release vents and ChannelDry Insulation board to the EPDM, TPO, PVC, KEE HP,and/or FleeceBACK roof system specification sections, as the “Basis of Design”.

If a non-proprietary spec is being written, suggest ChannelDry as an alternate to concrete additives, concrete curing agents, vented base sheets,and/or deck-level air & vapor barriers. You will need to modify the appropriate specification sections for all the products being proposed (i.e.: concrete specification section for concrete additives or curing agents, etc.).

When using the Alternates method, utilize Division 1 –“Alternates” to include ChannelDry in the “Schedule of Alternates” list for inclusion in the bid.
